In 2007 The Ewephoric flock of Dorsets became one flock. The Polled Dorset sheep numbering approximately 70 head were sold in their entirety to a breeder in northern CA. Ewephoric is now officially a total Horned Dorset Sheep Flock.
Our numbers are nearly 50 breeding ewes with 2 primary stud rams. We have scoured the country and feel that our 2 lead breeding rams are some of the finest available in the industry today. “Invincible” is a Virginia born ram and holds the title of Ohio National Sale Champion Ram of 2005. We have yet to find another ram with his pattern and overall style. “Sir Bud” came to us in a little different manner purchased privately from Oregon. The following month after purchase he became the Junior Champion Ram of the NAILE senior show in 2007.
Even more than both rams holding honorable Champion titles, they are clearly the soundest, most correct, and level topped Horned Dorset rams we have physically seen. Invincible, the more extended, showy model and Sir Bud the long sided meat packing stud that one would have to go some to get around. Offspring by Sir Bud’s sire “Champ” are pictured here at 6 months of age. Ewephoric has leased Champ and his offspring are being raised in the flock. (Photos of these stud rams are pictured on the STUD RAM page.)
Females in the Ewephoric flock hale from different parts of the country with most of them being home grown. Our original starter flock was a small package of 6 ewe lambs from Virginia while others came in from Ohio as well as Porterville, CA. We are one of the few flocks in the country that offers west coast breeding! From stud rams to females we are injecting something different into the market and you will like what you see ~
Horned Dorset sheep are currently on the Conservancy “Watch List” due to the small amount of sheep registered each year (under 2500.) We have seen a surge in the interest of Horned Dorsets in the past few years however. Registrations are up and the Futurity competition for young exhibitors begun in 2008 by the Continental Dorset Club is becoming quite popular while driving the market price of show ewe lambs! Good for the industry and great for the breeders!!
Fellow POLLED DORSET BREEDERS take note! The finest Dorsets do indeed have horns! While you are out there crossing up your sheep to make your Polls bigger.....we are breeding to make our Dorset Horns better!
Gregg & Marlene Bell are dedicated to keeping the Horned Dorsets safe and secure from cross breeding with other sheep breeds. Granted, we can’t control what others do, but we can certainly offer you our iron clad guarantee that you will always receive quality sheep from our breeding program.
"You can be a Polled Dorset breeder and breed them bigger by any means, or you can raise quality Horned Dorsets and breed them better with less feed and overall expense."
